Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is Twelevision?
Twelevision is a Twitter Client specifically written to help you tweet about television shows and follow conversions about shows people are watching.
-
Do I need a Twitter account to use Twelevision?
The current version of Twelevision does require all users to have a Twitter account. We plan on releasing a future version that allows anyone to follow the conversation without logging in. In the mean time, we've made it easy to create a profile at the login stage.
-
What's a Twitter/#tag/follower/etc... anyway?
It's easy for us to forget that everyone isn't a Twitter expert, and while we feel we've done our best to simplify your tweeting experience, we've collected a few links to explain some of the inner workings of Twitter:
-
Do I need to create a Twelevision user account to use this?
Not at all, you can just use your normal Twitter user account. Everything you see in this app about "you" (the great and noble user) is your own Twitter account, nothing more.
When signing in, the app connects securely to Twitter and authorises you. For convenience you can also select "Remember Me" from the login screen, meaning you won't have to login each time you load the application (unless you change your Twitter password or we upgrade the app).
If you don't already have a Twitter account, joining is really ease and your can join the conversation here.
-
What TV channels can I use through Twelevision?
Currently we support all Australian Free-to-Air channels across all regions of Australia. You can choose your region when you login, or you can change this under your Profile settings in the app.
On our development roadmap is coverage of all Australian television content along with GPS integration which will make this even easier and select the TV region based on your current location, so you don't have to do a thing. We thought that'd be really useful if you're travelling between states.

What are Badges and Stickers?
Glad you asked! This is a little bit of fun to make your TV viewing and Tweeting experience that much more engaging.
Stickers are a really simple way to comment on another viewer's tweet. Let's say a friend of yours has commented on a particular show, and you agree with them. Then slap them with a "love it" sticker. This will appear in the main Twitter feed (including regular Twitter, outside of the Twelevision app) and your friend will see they've been given a sticker. You can give a Sticker on the right hand panel of the app. We've made a little demo video that shows you how
Stickers don't hang around for long, they peel and fade away with time. Of course if you're a dedicated follower of Twelevision, you'll want to build up your trophy cabinet, and we do that through Badges. You're probably already familiar with the idea, but basically Badges are earned for watching certain types of shows, watching at certain times of day and watching for a certain period of time. We're not going to tell you all of the ways you can earn badges, what's the fun in that? You'll just have to try it for yourself and see how many you can get.
-
So do I need to "check-in" to watch a TV show?
Nope, not as complex as a "check-in" (or "chicken" as a Kiwi friend of mine says it. That come with chups too?). You watch the show, you tweet against a known hashtag for that show. Simple as that. Your first tweet indicates to us that you're watching (sorry if you're not, but this works for most people).
-
If my friends don't have Twelevision, can they still follow my Tweets?
Absolutely! We've built Twelevision from the start to play nicely with Twitter. The Hash tags will make sense to your friends and badges and stickers will appear as simple links that they can click to view what sort of award you've been given.
-
What platforms can I use Twelevision on?
We are starting with a release for the iPad, quickly followed by an iPhone/iPod Touch version. From there we will begin plans for an Android release. If you think there is a different platform we should be supporting we'd love to hear what you have to say.
-
The hash tag (#tag) for a show I like doesn't make sense?
We make every effort to create meaningful and sensible #tags for all shows on television. While we are improving this process all the time, sometimes our #tag won't be the best fit. That's why we allow users to create their own #tag in Twelevision. If enough people suggest the same #tag, we'll add it to our database.
-
Will everyone who follows me on Twitter see my Twelevision tweets?
Yes, Twelevision is primarily a Twitter client. Some users who don't want to flood their Twitter profile with lots of tweets as they watch television usually just make a new twitter account to use with Twelevision.
-
A lot of people are tweeting about the show I'm watching and it is getting hard to follow.
Can I just see the tweets from my friends?Sure, we give you control on how much of the conversation you want to see. You can choose to view every tweet with the given #tag, just tweets from other Twelevision users or just tweets from people you follow in Twitter. If you choose to view only tweets from people you follow, you will only see tweets from your friends. It is best if you both use Twelevision in this case so we can insert the right #tag for you.
-
Is Twelevision Free?
Yes, we make money from putting advertising inside the app. We may release a paid version of Twelevision without advertising in future. In the meantime, enjoy all the goodness of Twelevision without paying a cent.
